Project Narrative
This project removed a barrier to fish passage between the Pahsimeroi River, Sulphur Creek, and Patterson/Big Springs Creek in the Pahsimeroi River watershed. The existing diversion structure at the Sulphur Creek/P-13 intersection was removed and a new diversion structure approximately 240 feet downstream on the ditch was installed. At the new location, Sulphur Creek flows in excess of water rights are and will continue to be directed down a historic channel to the Pasimeroi River below Hooper Lane and Patterson/Big Springs Creek above Hooper Lane. The length of stream protected by the project actions was 0.4 miles and 8.0 miles of potential anadromous salmonid bearing stream was made accessible. This project will provide immediate benefit of barrier free passage for anadromous and resident fish species from the Pahsimeroi River below Hooper Lane to Patterson/Big Springs Creek above Hooper Lane through Sulphur Creek and the P-13 ditch. It will allow better access for both resident and anadromous fish to approximately eight miles of habitat.
