Project Narrative
Construction of the channel restoration was implemented during the summer of 2010. Instream habitat included channel structure placement (28 structures) including individual logs, rock/boulders and other engineered structures for .47 miles of stream. Twenty one pools were created. During the summer of 2011, the adjacent ditch was filled and shrub clumps were planted through this project rather than another project as originally proposed. Reseeding was completed by November 2011. During the spring and summer of 2012, more than 1,500 willow stakes were planted along both sides of the restored portion of the stream for a total of .94 miles and a riparian seed mix was planted on 2.9 acres. Inspections were completed throughout 2012.Completion of this project would provide access to historic spawning and rearing habitat, as well as increasing the suitability of the habitat for anadromous fish. Specifically, the reconnection and restoration of Duck Creek would provide juvenile anadromous fish (Chinook and Steelhead) better instream habitat by opening more pools and stabilizing the thermal regime, while also reducing sediment inputs. Increases in the flow due to removal of the ditch should provide immediate spawning habitat for Steelhead. Restoring Duck Creek will help increase the reproduction and survival of andromous salmonids in the middle Pahsimeroi reach
