Project Narrative

Headgate installation was the final action for the Loon Creek Habitat Improvement Project (PCSRF Project 014 18 SA) to prevent Snake River Spring/Summer-run Chinook Salmon and Snake River Steelhead from being entrained in a private lake at the Diamond D Ranch. The headgate functions in accordance with an already installed fish screen and will provide adequate water to fill the penstock pond to provide water to the new hydro facility. Installation of the fish screen was completed under the Loon Creek Habitat Improvement Project (PCSRF Project 014 18 SA) along with other habitat actions. The screen is self-cleaning, and will be used Spring through Fall to prevent salmonid entrainment in the Diamond D lake during the migration season. Installation of the headgate was delayed due to identifying redds immediately downstream of the new POD and it could not be completed in the timeframe of PCSRF Project 014 18 SA. The headgate will be installed in summer 2023 during the fish window.
