Project Narrative
The fish passage barrier on Bayhorse Creek was eliminated by removing a culvert and replacing it with a bridge resulting in increased access and improved habitat for steelhead spawning and rearing and resident and fluvial salmonids. The original Bayhorse Road culvert had a vertical outlet drop that exceeded criteria for fish passage. During construction the culvert was removed and the banks were prepared for the bridge footings. The bridge was installed and finished with a concrete bridge decking. The migration barrier will be removed and will allow salmonids access to 7.5 miles of steam. Habitat will be significantly improved for steelhead spawning and rearing as well as resident and fluvial salmonids. As spawning and rearing conditions improve, the number of juvenile salmonids surviving in Bayhorse Creek to presmolt and smolt stages is expected to increase.
